Stolen Legacies: The Fight for Nazi-Looted Art
A Conversation with Adena J. Bernstein
Award-winning author, prosecutor, and speaker Adena J. Bernstein invites you to explore one of the most consequential unresolved questions of Holocaust justice: Who owns stolen history?
The Nazis didn’t just steal art. They stole identity, heritage, and memory.
In Stolen Legacies: The Fight for Nazi-Looted Art, Bernstein examines the decades-long global struggle to recover Jewish art and cultural property stolen during the Holocaust. Through investigative history, legal analysis, and the personal stories behind restitution claims, she reveals how forced sales were transformed into “legal” transactions, how survivors faced impossible burdens of proof, and how justice was repeatedly delayed.
Drawing from research across thirteen countries and her own family history as the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, Bernstein explores museum ethics, provenance research, restitution law, and the human cost of leaving stolen works unresolved.
Join us for a powerful discussion on art, accountability, memory, and the ongoing fight to restore what was taken.
