The Federation welcomes two authors, Julie Satow and Daniel Schulman, for a fascinating panel discussion with the inside scoop on how well-known companies we are all familiar with got their starts.
Julie Satow, author of When Women Ran Fifth Avenue, will share a glittering portrait of the golden age of American department stores and highlight three ceiling-shattering women who led them.
Daniel Schulman, author of The Money Kings, will discuss the incredible saga of the German-Jewish immigrants with now familiar names like Goldman Sachs, Jacob Schiff, and Lehman Brothers, who profoundly influenced the rise of modern finance.

Gather your friends and join us for a delightful morning of bagels and books, featuring three popular historical fiction authors! New York Times best-selling author Kristin Harmel (The Paris Daughter) will speak along with New York Times best-selling author Lisa Barr (The Goddess of Warsaw) and Emily Matchar (In the Shadow of Greenbrier, her debut novel). Brunch will be provided by Michael’s On East. Book sale and signing to follow the presentation.

Growing up in the shadow of David Duke and father, Don Black, both Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizards, R. Derek Black was raised to take over the white nationalist movement in the United States. Hear their incredible story of renouncing white nationalism in 2013 after attending New College, coming out as transgender, and facing violent backlash from both family and community. Since publicly renouncing their former beliefs, Black has been profiled in the Washington Post, People, and O! magazine, and has been interviewed for Fresh Air, The Daily, On Being, The Daily Show, and has been recognized by the Anti-Defamation League.
